Establishment of the Department DCT

The Department of Desertification Combat Techniques was established in 2018 at the Agricultural Technical College – Mosul as one of the specialized scientific departments aiming to address the challenges of desertification and environmental changes affecting the agricultural sector and natural resources in Iraq. The establishment of the department came in response to the growing need for qualified technical and engineering staff capable of applying modern technologies in water resources management, environmental protection, and improving the efficiency of land utilization.

The department aims to develop modern irrigation methods and increase water-use efficiency through smart irrigation technologies and electronically controlled irrigation systems that rely on mobile devices, the internet, and other communication technologies. These technologies contribute to rationalizing water consumption and achieving sustainable agricultural development. The department also seeks to prepare students scientifically and practically in the fields of desertification combat, soil and water management, and smart agricultural technologies in line with labor market requirements and technological advancements in the agricultural sector.

Furthermore, the department strives to contribute to providing scientific and practical solutions to environmental and agricultural challenges through supporting scientific research, field training, and cooperation with governmental institutions and the private sector. Its mission is to protect agricultural lands, reduce the effects of desertification, and support sustainable development.
