Vision - Mission & Aims

Department of Desertification Control Technologies

1. Introduction

The Department of techniques to combat desertification is one of the four vital departments in the Agricultural Technical College, which was established in (2018). The department includes the first study program (bachelor) for the morning and evening studies as well as the application of the Bologna system and the SIS.

The department contributes to face one of the biggest environmental challenges of our time, namely desertification. This section deals with land degradation in dry and semi-arid areas, where human activities and climate change are leading to soil loss of fertility, threatening food security and livelihoods.

The Department of Desertification Control technologies provides an important educational and research platform that contributes to the formation of a generation of specialists capable of meeting the challenges of desertification and promoting environmental sustainability. This department is not just an academic study, it is a call to action to protect our planet and create a better future for future generations.

2. View the Section

The Department of Desertification Control technologies is a pioneer in the development and application of sustainable solutions to combat desertification and restore degraded lands, contributing to the protection of the environment and the promotion of food security and sustainable development.

3. The Oath Message

The Department of Desertification Control techniques seeks to provide innovative research and develop effective techniques to combat desertification, through collaboration with academic and governmental institutions and local communities and to raise awareness about the importance of soil and natural resources conservation.

To promote environmental sustainability through education, training, applied projects and continuous efforts to develop faculty members and staff in the department and provide advisory and teaching services in the department’s specialized areas.

4. Objectives of the Section

The Department of Desertification Control techniques aims to graduate a cadre that is able to work in the basic axes of science of combating desertification and sustainable development and keep pace with scientific and technical progress through the development of educational plans and curricula of quality, which contributes to the formation of academic and research cadres in the field of combating desertification able to contribute to the service of society as follows:

  1. Building a strong foundation of knowledge in the field of combating desertification in the student and providing distinguished educational programs of quality that contribute to providing students with knowledge assets and developing the students’ abilities to think analytically to prepare pioneers of creative and talented youth.
  2. Diagnosis of signs of desertification and use of software to predict them.
  3. Resist wind erosion and install sand dunes.
  4. Water harvesting and how to calculate what can be stored using software.
  5. Identification of drought- and desert-resistant varieties.
  6. Rationing irrigation water and increasing its efficiency.
  7. Re-use of returned water (domestic water and sewage).
  8. The use of space forecasting and mapping programs in surface and groundwater management.
